Kentucky Agricultural Leadership Program
The Kentucky Agricultural Leadership Program KALP, which is
administered by the University of Kentucky, has had a rich history
and tremendous impact on the “Who’s Who” of Kentucky agriculture.
Wanting to provide focused leadership training to young farmers and
the agricultural industry workforce, KyCGA became a major donor to
the KALP endowment.
“We believe in leadership programs for our young farmers,” said
Laura Knoth, KyCGA Executive Director and KALP alumni. “Agriculture
faces so many obstacles. The industry is changing, economy is
changing, so it is important to build strong leaders who will help
to keep our agricultural economy growing in Kentucky.”
Once fully supported by Phillip Morris, KALP now requires funding
support from Kentucky’s agriculture community.
“We thought it was important to support a leadership program that
has helped to educate young farmers and agribusiness leaders across
Kentucky,” said Philip McCoun, former
KyCGA President and KALP alumni. “It is important to keep a strong
program such as this going, and we were happy to be in a position to
help.”
Knoth and McCoun both admit that their experience in the leadership
program helped them make connections they continue to use as today
as leaders in Kentucky agriculture.
‘It is great to see so many of the alumni from KALP in leadership
roles in Kentucky agriculture today,” said Knoth. “The program gives
farmers the tools, the knowledge, and the incentive to believe in
themselves and step up to those leadership positions that are so
critical for the future of Kentucky agriculture.”
