KyCGA History &
Mission
Organized in 1982, the Kentucky Corn
Growers Association (KyCGA) has been working to improve
producer profitability by enhancing and expanding potential
uses and markets for corn, providing a voice for producers
in influencing beneficial legislation, and educating farmers
about new technology which will help them achieve greater
production yields.
The KyCGA's projects are guided by a
Board of Directors. Two producer members are selected
from each of the six production districts in the state, as
well as three industry representatives, an extension
representative, and members representing local corn grower
associations across the state: Union Co., Green River,
Lincoln Trail and Southeast Ky.
In 1990, a corn check-off (0.0025 of
the gross value of all corn) was adopted by the Kentucky
Legislature, and the Kentucky Corn Promotion Council
was formed to decide how the funds were to be spent. All
check-off funding is used in one of five areas: Promotion,
Education, Market Development, Research, and Administration.
Together, the Kentucky Corn Growers’ Association and the
Kentucky Corn Promotion Council work to:
- Invest in Beneficial Research
- Create New Markets for Corn
- Develop Educational Programs
- Promote the Use of Ethanol and Corn Products
- Influence Government Policy
The Kentucky Corn Growers Association is a state
affiliate organization of the
National Corn
Growers Association (NCGA). All members who join the
Kentucky Corn Growers Association also become a member of
the NCGA. With state-collected dues money and a percentage
of state check-off funds, the NCGA provides a number of
services that promote KyCGA's goals and benefit its corn
grower members.
In 1999, the KyCGA Board and Promotion Council developed
a Strategic Plan and defined the following:
Core Values -
Honesty, Leadership, Responsibility, Profitability, and
Innovation
KyCGA Mission -
To be an innovative
organization that provides dividends, benefits and services
that meet the needs of our producers and members in a
changing industry.
KyCGA Vision -
The Kentucky Corn Growers
Association collects and allocates check-off funds to
promote corn use, educate members and consumers, represent
grower to legislature, conduct production and utilization
research, and provide direct tangible benefits to producers
and members in Kentucky.
