E85 Fuel Dispenser Incentive Program
E85
is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline that should
only be
used in flexible-fuel vehicles (FFVs). Responding to the increased
number of these FFVs on the road today, the
number of public E85 fuel dispensers in Kentucky have nearly tripled
in the past two years.
The Kentucky Corn Growers
Association provides financial assistance to help fuel
retailers install additional pumps in the state. Retailers may
receive up to $5,00 per dispenser.
In 2010, KyCGA supported the installation of five dispensers
operated by
Thorntons, Inc., a leading fuel retailer in the Midwest.
There are now 22 public E85 fueling locations in the state. Many of
these retailers, which include Max Arnold & Sons, Kroger,
Meijer, Key Oil and a
couple independent owners, are providing E85 fuel because demand for
the clean, domestic fuel has increased.
According to the ethanol industry group Growth Energy, there are
more than 92,000 Flexible-Fuel Vehicles (FFVs), those that can run
on ethanol blends up to 85%, registered in Kentucky. That number is
growing as vehicle manufacturers continue to provide the engines as
standard equipment.
KyCGA would like to thank the Kentucky retailers who are providing
higher ethanol blends to their customers. The recent increase in
pumps is in response to Americans wanting a greener energy
alternative.
