In 2003, the Kentucky Corn
Promotion Council invested $1 Million in a Hopkinsville,
Kentucky based ethanol plant in order to help create a
market for Kentucky corn and boost local corn prices. The
investment is administered by Ky. Corn Plus, a
limited-liability corporation of the Kentucky Corn Growers
Association. Returns on the investment will be utilized for
additional cooperative business projects.

Project Details:
- 100% farmer owned -
members of Hopkinsville Elevator Cooperative & Kentucky
Corn Growers Association. KyCGA owns a 6 percent share.
- Ethanol production began
on February 18, 2004, and the plant produced 24 million
gallons in its first year.
- The plant finished its
expansion in early 2006 and currently produces 33 million
gallons of ethanol requiring 12 million bushels of corn.
- Markets include
Louisville, St. Louis and RFG cities in Southeast U.S.
- Payne Enterprises
constructed a dry ice plant that purchases and utilizes
the 110 thousand pounds of CO2 produced from
ethanol production.
- 110 thousand pounds of
DDGS is produced and marketed as a high-protein feed to
livestock producers through Land O'Lakes.
