Farmer
volunteers are talking to Kentucky teachers this month during the
Kentucky Farm Bureau Regional Teacher Workshops held across the
state. Their hope is that our educators will invite them into their
classrooms next school year to share their food and farming
knowledge with Kentucky students. The workshops are being held at
various locations between June 16 and June 30, and more than 620
teachers have registered to attend. KyCGA is a sponsor of the
Kentucky Farm Bureau teacher workshops, which provided an ideal
setting to introduce teachers to the valuable resource available to
them, passionate farmers from all sizes and sectors of the industry.
The workshops are also allowing the association to gather
information on what types of tools and materials teachers like to
use, as well as, the sources of information they look to. The
results will prove useful in developing future farm-based curriculum
and will be shared with other agricultural associations.
Right - Volunteer Celeste Laurent Harned shares why the program is
important at the Paducah workshop. Below - More than 150 teachers
learned about the program at the Louisville workshop from volunteers
Tommee Clark and Carly Guinn and provided feedback on the teacher
surveys.

CommonGround is a program supported by the United Soybean Board and
the National Corn Growers Association which empowers farm
spokeswomen to talk with consumers about their commitment to providing
safe, affordable food. Both the Kentucky Corn
Growers Association and the Kentucky Soybean Board are working to
make sure Kentucky's farm women are heard within the state on this
emotionally-driven topic.
