Congratulations to our 2017 KyCorn Scholarship Recipients
The KyCorn Board of Directors are proud to announce their 2017-2018 scholarship recipients: Jonah Brannon, Tyler Kummer, and Alexander Mann.
KyCorn Board and KyCorn Promotion Council members have been donating to a scholarship fund for several years. Distributing the money was approved in 2011 since the fund had grown large enough to support the program.
This is sixth year KyCorn has provided at least two $1,000 scholarships for high school seniors entering a post-secondary agriculture program and one $2,000 scholarship for a student already enrolled in an agricultural field of study.
The scholarship program is offered to KyCorn member families.
Jonah Brannon is a 4.0 senior at Calloway County High School and plans to attend Murray State University this fall to study Agribusiness and Crop Production.
Jonah has been actively engaged in plot research for the past few years and has already purchased family land to make his own contribution to feeding the growing population.
Tyler Kummer is a leader at Simpson County High School and his community, being active in the Student Council, FFA, DECA and FBLA, and his church. He plans on studying Agriculture Economics at either WKU or UK, and will then return to the farm.
Tyler said he looks forward to practicing the art of farming, which "will be a successful blend of science and business."
Alexander Mann, of Auburn, is a sophomore studying agriculture at Western Kentucky University. He is currently looking at internship and study abroad opportunities and plans to work in Kentucky agriculture upon graduation while supporting his family's farm.
Alexander has adopted the family mantra "think global, act local" and looks forward to making his mark in the agriculture community.
We are excited to see what these young men will accomplish in the future.
